Fr.Paul's "State of the Parish" Message

Dear Brothers and Sisters:
With Advent and Christmas seasons of the Jubilee already past, we return tomorrow
to Ordinary Time.
I am deeply grateful to all of you who gave so much time and energy to make our season
so beautiful.
So many of the Liturgical celebrations bore witness to your deep faith and prayerful
spirit.
This new year of 2000 promises to be a time of special blessing for all of us as we
"Open Wide the Doors for Christ" in our individual and communal lives. There are
a few things I would like to highlight as we begin this year:
1. Each Monday evening you are invited to attend a Sunday Liturgy Preparation Bible
Study. I will introduce the Sunday readings with biblical commentary and then offer
time for reflection and sharing. As we focus our attention on Sunday Mass as the
heart of our communal life, this will be an opportunity to enhance our participation, especially
as we become more rooted in the Word of God. The study begins promptly at 7:30 P.M.
and finishes at 8:30 P.M. We will meet in Saint Michael's Hall, though we hope to outgrow that space quickly!
2. Later this month we begin again the Together in Mission Appeal. This is the annual
appeal that addresses the needs of our inner-city schools and parishes. Father Mike
Mikulski, who was ordained from Incarnation parish four and a half years ago, will
preach at all the Masses on the weekend of January 15/16, except for 12 NOON Mass, due
to a special Archdiocesan Liturgy scheduled here that day. Father Mike is the Associate
Pastor of both Nativity and Saint Columbkille churches in South Central Los Angeles. He will speak to us from his personal experience of the needs of our poorest parishes.
I hope to see this as a springboard to our relationship with an inner-city parish.
May you receive an abundance of grace and goodness from our God in this year 2000!
Love, Father Paul
