Father Paul J. Hruby

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Every seven years the L. A. Archdiocese encourages priests of the local Church to go on sabbatical. (The word sabbatical comes from the biblical word for seven, hence the Sabbath.) Fourteen years ago I spent 5 months in Jerusalem in a biblical study program. Since my announcement two weeks ago about taking a sabbatical in the second half of this year, many of you have asked what I will be doing this time.

The first and last month of my time away will be spent traveling. Most of the middle four months will be spent with my brother and family up on the panhandle of Idaho. He has a small wooded farm north of Coeur D'Alene on land surrounded by lakes and rivers. Though I have compiled a bibliography consisting mostly of books by Thomas Merton (and books having to do with contemplation and Eastern Spirituality), the real emphasis of my sabbatical will be renewal. It is also my hope to make a 30 day Ignatian retreat.

The parish will be in good hands! Bill Shaules and Rita Guild will oversee the day to day running of the parish along with the rest of our fine staff. Msgr. Frilot and Father Tom Schweitzer will administer the sacramental needs of the parish. I'm also happy to announce that Father Irudaya Raj Santhanam (Father "Raju") will be here from mid-June until mid-October to assist in the sacramental ministry of the parish. Father Gus and Father Pat (once he returns from his own sabbatical) will also be here each Sunday.

Currently, my plan is to leave Incarnation on 22 June and return on 22 December. I look forward to these coming months and thank you for your continued support as I count on your prayers!

Peace and Love,

Rev.Paul J. Hruby
