Troop 101 Camps at Yosemite!

By Colin T.,

Incarnation Boy Scout Troop 101 spent several days camping in Yosemite over the Thanksgiving weekend. Yosemite was bitter cold (dropping into the low 30s at night), but full of beauty.

As we drove out of a long tunnel and onto a point overlooking Yosemite Valley, we couldn't help but marvel at the breathtaking view. You could see the cliff of El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall, and Half Dome.

We pitched our tents in Upper Pines Campground. The next morning we hiked the Mist Trail to the top of Vernal Fall. It was tough going uphill. In fact, not all the scouts made it to the top. Those scouts who finished the climb ate lunch in some impressive surroundings. Off in the distance was another incredible waterfall, Nevada Fall. Then Troop 101's Venture Patrol backpacked to an even higher elevation and camped overnight there. The rest of us hiked back to camp.

On our last night, we went to Yosemite Lodge to hear a ranger talk about how water shaped the Yosemite Valley and how it created the natural wonder in which we camped. We were told that a bear wandered through our campground, but we missed it.

This trip was a lot of fun, and the scouts hope to go back again when it's warmer!
