- “But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
– Acts 1:8
Our mission during the Confirmation Preparation Process is to help prepare the high school aged youth to receive the sacrament and to deepen their faith and that of the parish community. Confirmation preparation is a process in Christian growth based on the belief that teenagers are at a significant point in their faith journey where they are beginning to establish a personal faith identity. Through sharing their own journey and interacting with others, the candidates are assisted in identifying and understanding how God is working in their lives, and come to a new realization of faith within the context of the parish community.
What is Confirmation?
Confirmation, together with Baptism and Eucharist, form the Sacraments of Initiation that are all intimately connected. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is “sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit” and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ and welcomed fully into the life of the Church.
Incarnation’s One8 Confirmation Program
The One8 Confirmation Program is open to all high school aged youth who have not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation. We also welcome all youth who have not received their other sacraments of initiation including Baptism and First Holy Communion.
Our program spans 2 academic years, as mandated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Each One8 session takes place from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm in the Incarnation Community Center. Following the session we attend the 5:30 pm Mass in the Church which ends at approximately at 6:30 pm.
In these sessions, we gather as a large group and open with prayer. We begin with an icebreaker or fun activity and then a speaker or Core member presents the teaching. After the teaching confirmation candidates break into small groups for discussions and activities. We then re-gather and conclude with announcements and closing prayer. Our sessions cover various topics approved and mandated by the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
On a few evenings, we will require either the Confirmation sponsor or parent to attend the session. Please see the official schedule for dates.
Retreats are such an important part of spiritual growth and development. This is why we at Incarnation off Year 1 & 2 candidates the opportunity to experience two retreats during the confirmation process. The Year 1 Retreat is a one day retreat that takes place in the fall while the Year 2 Retreat is a full weekend retreat in the spring. The retreat costs are included in registration.
We feel your journey in faith during the high school years will not be easy and Life Teen will help give you a more complete experience. Confirmation sessions focus primarily on faith and religious formation. Life Teen is designed to create a place where teens can support each other and grow in faith and friendship while learning how to apply their Catholic values and beliefs into their daily lives. Life Teen also sponsors many social activities so you can start to meet others whose faith is important to them.
